What to expect on your First Visit
At Booval Chiropractic, we are committed to making it as easy as possible for people to find out if chiropractic may help them with current symptoms and health.
When you walk through our door for your first visit at Booval Chiropractic, you will be welcomed by one of our friendly chiropractic assistants who will assist you throughout your first visit and will always be here to help you.
Let’s Get to Know Each Other
During this visit, we will gather all the information needed to discover whether chiropractic care can help you.
We will ask you to complete a health history form on your arrival, alternatively, you can download this form and complete it before your appointment.
This form will give us information about your general health including any pre-existing conditions or other issues, which helps us determine what is causing your symptoms.
What Happens During Your Chiropractic Examination?
Once your chiropractor has all the information they need, they will begin a thorough and non-invasive examination of your body to find the cause of your symptoms, which includes:
A postural evaluation: to determine if your posture is contributing to the problem
Assessment of your spinal range of motion: to evaluate your spine for restriction or painful movement
Orthopaedic testing: specific tests to assess physical damage to your musculoskeletal condition
Neurological and balance testing: to evaluate the functioning of your nervous system
When do we need to refer you for X-Rays?
Sometimes we may need more information about the structure of your spine, and if clinically necessary, we will refer you for x-rays to obtain this.
X-rays reveal a lot about the quality of your discs and bones and can show things such as spinal curvatures or bone degeneration.
X-rays also reveal whether conditions such as arthritis could be present in your spine.
Your chiropractor will discuss everything with you on your second visit and recommended treatment options.
What happens on your second visit with us?
On your second visit, we will explain to you:
- Your examination findings and what they mean to your health
- Your x-rays (if taken) and what they reveal about your spine
- What is wrong with your spine
- How chiropractic care may restore your function and decrease your pain
- The stages of healing your body will progress through during treatment
- The different types of chiropractic care and which will best suit you
- The program of care we recommend for you and how much that is likely to cost
- How we will measure your progress
- If another health professional may be beneficial to you or even better suited for you than chiropractic care
This visit should resolve any questions or concerns you may have about your health and whether chiropractic care is the best option for you.
We encourage you to ask as many questions as you can.
What does Chiropractic Treatment Involve?
The primary treatments a chiropractor uses involve gentle, specific spinal adjustments, soft tissue work where necessary, and the inclusion of exercises to improve both movement and strength to the spine.
Ice or heat will also be used if needed.
We have a number of different techniques that we use so we can design a specific individual treatment that is suitable for children through to adults of all ages.
Should You Have Regular Spinal Examinations?
Even if you feel great and you are not experiencing pain, many patients find value in a regular check-up to ensure optimum function and wellbeing.
Your skeletal health is just as important as your medical health, so give it the attention it deserves.
A regular check-up can pick up any problems early and help keep you in good shape.
